Farhad Khan’s story

The Beginning

2007. A studio, and a scent.

It started in 2007, back when I'd just opened my yoga studio. I wanted people to walk through the door and feel something before they even unrolled their mat — a scent that said comfort, home, arriving. So I found an aromatherapist here in Vancouver and asked her to help me create it.

She was strict — all-natural, wild-crafted, no synthetics, no fragrance, no dyes, nothing artificial at all. That mattered to me more than she probably realized. What you put on your skin goes into your bloodstream. I wasn't willing to compromise on that, even in year one.

We worked on that first blend for about a year and a half — back and forth, adjusting, starting over, getting closer — until sometime in 2008 we finally landed on it. I still remember how excited I was. That blend became the signature scent of my studio, and it's the one this whole line grew from.

Why I Kept Going

I couldn't stop.

After that first blend, I couldn't stop. I started creating more — a set inspired by the chakras, each one built around what it was meant to support: grounding, uplifting, calming the nervous system, easing into a meditative state. I love creating in general, whether it's a space, a piece of art, or a scent. This was just another way of doing that.

Eventually I sold the studio and stepped away from making products publicly. But people kept finding me — asking where they could still get what I'd made, telling me they couldn't find anything else like it. That's when it hit me: this wasn't just a studio amenity. It was something people genuinely loved and relied on. So I went back into the lab with the same person I'd started with, and brought on a second lab to help me elevate it further — lotions, body butters, mists, roll-ons, toners, new blends entirely.

Where the Scents Come From

Scents that carry memory.

I wanted to go beyond the lavender and sweet orange and frankincense I'd started with — sandalwood, rose, jasmine, neroli, scents that remind me of India and carry real healing properties, a little more elevated, a little more luxurious. One of those blends is named 1948 Rashida Rose — Rashida was my mother's name, and 1948 was her birth year. Rose was her flower. It felt right to carry her into this.

No Compromises

If I wouldn't use it, you won't either.

Every product I make is all-natural, cruelty-free, no synthetic fragrance, no dyes. I won't use any of it. Finding suppliers who could actually deliver on that — genuinely natural, not just labeled that way — took far longer than I expected. If an ingredient came back with any trace of toxicity or wasn't truly natural, it didn't make it in, even if that meant delaying a product indefinitely. I read through everything. If I couldn't find the right version of an ingredient, the product simply didn't launch until I did.

I think about my dog, my family, myself, breathing this in every day. If I wouldn't put it in my own bloodstream, I'm not putting it in yours.

The Rebrand

Khan Wellness, by name.

Which brings me to now: Khan Wellness. A little more refined, a little more considered. The packaging has changed too — I'm using Miron glass, a deep ultraviolet violet glass that looks nearly black until you hold it to the light. It's reusable, and because my formulas have no synthetic preservatives, that violet glass genuinely helps protect the potency of what's inside — typically a 6 to 12 month shelf life once opened, and you'll actually get the most out of every drop within that window.

Everything is made in small batches. I don't mass produce. I'm a Libra, so being detail-oriented isn't optional for me — it's just how I work. I wanted to put something out into the world with my name on it that I could stand fully behind.

How I Actually Use It

This is my daily ritual.

This isn't a product line I made and then stepped back from — I use it daily. The mist and toner come with me to my classes and events. The roll-on goes on my wrist and temple when I need to feel grounded or lifted. After my shower, it's the lotion, then the body oil — and honestly, that's become a kind of meditation in itself. Taking a moment to actually look at your hands, your arms, this one vessel you get — that's part of the ritual, not separate from it.

A few pieces were built for specific moments: Ceremony, for exactly that — ceremony, workshops, marking an intention. Ritual, with its eucalyptus lift, made for the sauna, the steam room, the shower.

On the Price

Worth the cost.

I won't pretend these products are the cheapest option on the shelf, and I don't think they should be. You pay more for organic, for clean, for ingredients that were sourced the hard way instead of the fast way — and this is no different. Every formula has been checked and rechecked for safety and for how genuinely natural it is, because my name is on it. I use it. I want that for myself, and I want it for you too.
